I’ve debated whether I should write this blog post—because it’s not a success story, not yet anyway.
But sometimes, we need to talk about the messy in-betweens. The burnout. The recalibration. The quiet pivots behind the scenes.
So today, I want to be honest and share what I’ve been going through over the past two weeks. If you’re juggling multiple commitments and feeling like you’re falling short, you’re not alone.
The Burnout I Didn’t See Coming
Since January 2025, I’ve been proud of my consistency. My Master’s studies have been going well. My blog has grown to over 200 published posts. I’ve stayed motivated—until recently.
Suddenly, everything feels overwhelming:
- 3 group assignments
- 1 individual assignment
- Job hunting
- Revamping my personal website
- Final exam preparation
On top of that, I’ve noticed a steady decline in blog traffic since early June. This hit particularly hard because I recently applied to Journey by Mediavine, and seeing the numbers fall made me question whether I was truly ready.
Google’s algorithm seems to have turned its back on me, Pinterest impressions are fluctuating, and despite reading the analytics, I still feel like I’m guessing.
The anxiety slowly built up until it started affecting everything—including my motivation to work on the very tasks that are important.
Revisiting My 2025 Goals
I took a moment to look back at my 2025 New Year’s resolutions:
- 🎓 Achieve Distinction for Master’s – In progress
- ✍️ Publish 300 blog posts by December – 208 completed
- 💼 Secure a job with a salary of RM5,500+ – Not started
It hit me that only one of these goals (publishing blog posts) is entirely input-focused—something I can fully control.
The other two depend on external factors like grading standards and job market conditions.
And this has been a big part of my stress: I’ve been tying my self-worth to outcomes I can’t entirely influence.

Key Lessons I’m Learning
This period of burnout has forced me to slow down and reflect. Here are three takeaways I hope will help you too:
1. Differentiate Input vs Output Goals
Focus your energy on goals where you control the action (inputs), not just the result (outputs).
Publishing 300 blog posts is measurable and within my control. Whether those posts bring in X amount of traffic or income? That’s external.
Lesson: Align at least one major goal with actions, not just outcomes.
2. When Overwhelmed, Prioritize Ruthlessly
Trying to do everything at once leads to doing nothing well.
I had to accept that my blog can’t be my top priority right now.
What needs my attention is my coursework and job search.
Lesson: Focus on what’s urgent and important, and give yourself permission to pause or simplify the rest.
3. Recalibration is Not Failure
Burnout often comes when we’re so focused on our original plan that we forget we’re allowed to revise it.
Refocusing doesn’t mean I’m quitting—it means I’m being strategic about when and where to invest my energy.
Lesson: Success isn’t about never adjusting course—it’s about adjusting intentionally.

- Complete all academic assignments with full focus.

- Begin the job hunting process with clarity, not panic.

Final Thoughts
