I’ve been there, and I know how overwhelming it can be to navigate the noise of expectations, responsibilities, and the little voice in your head asking, “What now?”

You don’t have to have all the answers right away. You just have to start asking the right questions.

The Importance of Knowing Your “Why”
Ever notice how people who seem fulfilled have a strong sense of purpose?
That’s because knowing your “why” helps you live with intention.
When you’re clear on what drives you, everything else starts falling into place—you declutter your life, reignite your passion, improve your well-being, and make decisions that align with who you truly are.
Your “why” is like your personal North Star—it keeps you going even when things get tough.
Define Your Core Values
What truly matters to you?
Core values are the non-negotiables that shape how you live and make decisions. Maybe you value freedom, creativity, or gratitude.
Take a moment to reflect and choose your top 3 values.
Write them down. Your values act as a filter—anything that doesn’t align with them isn’t worth your time or energy.
Identify Your Passions
Passions are the things that make you feel alive.
To figure out what you love, ask yourself:
- If money wasn’t a factor, what would you spend your time doing?
- If you had to give a speech on any topic, what would it be?
- What activities make you lose track of time?
- What did you love doing as a kid before “real life” took over?
- If you only had a year left to live, how would you spend it? How do you want to be remembered?
Your passions are clues—they point you toward what truly excites and fulfills you.
Find Your Mission
Once you understand what excites you, think about how you can use it to make an impact.
Your mission doesn’t have to be grand; it can be as simple as helping people in small but meaningful ways. Ask yourself:
- How can I improve the lives of others?
- Are there causes or charities that align with my values?
- What does my community need that I can contribute to?
When you connect your passions to a greater purpose, everything feels more meaningful.
Recognize What People Seek Your Help For
Sometimes, the world already knows what we’re good at before we do.
What do people always come to you for?
Maybe you’re great at giving advice, organizing things, or explaining complicated topics in a simple way.
If you’re unsure, ask your friends: “What do you appreciate about me?”
Their answers might surprise you—and give you clarity on your unique strengths.
Take Action and Reflect
Clarity comes from action, not just thinking.
If you’re unsure about what you want, try new things.
Experiment.
Learn.
And most importantly, pay attention to how you feel along the way.
If you don’t enjoy the journey, that’s a sign that you’re chasing something you don’t actually want.
Reflection breeds certainty—so take time to check in with yourself regularly.
Stay Present and Follow the Signs
Sometimes, what you’re looking for is already in front of you—you just have to notice.
Being in awe of life keeps you open to opportunities.
The universe (or whatever you believe in) has a way of dropping hints, whether it’s a gut feeling, a random conversation, or an unexpected opportunity.
Learn to trust these signs and follow them with courage.
Embrace Trial and Error
Here’s the truth: Finding what you want is not a one-time discovery—it’s an ongoing process of trial and error.
You don’t have to get it right the first time.
In fact, you probably won’t.
But each step you take, even the wrong ones, gets you closer to understanding yourself.
The answer to what you actually want reveals itself as you work toward what you think you want. It is only through doing that you learn what you truly want.
So don’t be afraid to take steps in a direction that feels right—even if it turns out to be the wrong one.
Every experience, whether a success or a lesson, brings you closer to clarity.
Learning About Myself Through Others
I took the time to ask friends from different phases of my life how they see me. Here’s what they said:
Friends’ Perspectives:
- Driven & Resourceful – I have a strong hustle mindset and a drive to break out of the rat race. I’m constantly seeking self-improvement, whether academically, financially, or emotionally.
- A Go-To for Advice – People come to me for financial and life advice. I’m a good listener, providing both emotional support and practical solutions.
- Fun & Spontaneous – I’m happiest when exploring new experiences, driving with music on, and celebrating small wins.
- Unique & Trustworthy – Friends appreciate my perspectives and the way I make them think differently. I listen and understand deeply.
- Independent Yet Valued – While many admire my independence, some friends wish I were more accessible in real life.
Managers & Colleagues’ Perspectives:
- They described me as someone who brings balance to a team with a calm and collected manner.
- I’m known for being thoroughly detail-oriented, especially when dealing with data and reports.

How I Used This to Pivot My Life
After gathering these insights, I realized something: I thrive when I’m pursuing knowledge, guiding others, and working on something that allows me to be independent.
That’s when I made two big decisions:
Focusing on Blogging – I decided to take my writing seriously and even got a blogging coach to help me. Sharing insights about finance, self-improvement, and making money online aligns perfectly with my skills and interests.
Pursuing a Master’s in Data Science – I love working with data, and after reflecting on my strengths, I took the leap to invest my life savings into a one-year Master’s program. It was a massive risk, but I knew I had to experiment and push myself in new directions.
These decisions weren’t made overnight.
They were the result of trial and error, self-reflection, and embracing the uncertainty of chasing what I think I want—because I know that clarity will come through action.
