Since launching in 2025, @desha_propertypartners has been redefining what it means to be in real estate. They’re not just selling homes, but also educating Malaysians to make smarter, more strategic property decisions.
Founded by husband-and-wife team Deva and Sharmila, Desha Property Partners was born out of a desire to break free from the 9-to-5 grind and build something that creates real impact. They have grown into a brand known for its transparency, data-driven insights, and genuine care for clients, especially within the Malaysian Indian community.
In this interview, we dive into their journey from corporate life to entrepreneurship, the challenges of building trust in a skeptical industry, and how they’re using education to change the way people think about property.
1. How did your journey into real estate begin, and what inspired you to work together as a husband-and-wife team?
We both reached a point in our 9-to-5 routines where everything felt repetitive. There was no real sense of growth or purpose.
We wanted something that could challenge us, help us grow, and at the same time make a real difference in people’s lives. That’s when Sharmila suggested exploring real estate.
We realized that property has so much potential to transform people’s lives when it’s done right. We wanted to be part of that change – not just to sell homes, but to connect people with opportunities that could build long-term wealth.
That’s how Desha Property Partners was born. “De” stands for Deva and “Sha” stands for Sharmila. It’s not just our names combined, but a reflection of our partnership in both life and business.
Our goal has always been simple, to help Malaysians build wealth through property.
2. What services do you offer, and what sets Desha Property Partners apart from others?
Desha Property Partners isn’t just about selling houses. We focus on educating and empowering our clients to make smart property decisions.
For first-time buyers, we guide them to think strategically and invest in properties that can actually grow their wealth. We teach them to look beyond the surface, to understand how to choose properties that can bring long-term returns instead of emotional satisfaction alone.
For seasoned investors, we save them time by doing all the research and analysis for them. We study market data, compare opportunities, and recommend the best properties with the highest potential ROI.
What makes us different is that we’re not here to push listings. We’re here to guide. We give our clients clarity, data, and direction so that every property they buy has a purpose and profit behind it.
We’re not salespeople. We’re consultants who believe education is the best investment anyone can make.
3. What is your consultation process like for someone buying or selling a home?
Our consultation process always begins with education. Whether it’s a buyer or a seller, we take the time to understand their goals, and then we explain the “why” behind every decision. For buyers, especially first-timers, we go through detailed financial analyses, future projections, and market comparisons. We show them real data and help them see the full picture before they commit.
We also believe that knowledge should be accessible. That’s why we simplify everything. We break down financial terms and market trends into simple, relatable language.
For sellers, our approach is to position their property in a way that attracts serious buyers and maximizes value. We guide them from start to finish, from the first meeting to the day the deal closes.
What makes our process unique is that we combine data with storytelling.
People remember stories, not spreadsheets. And when people understand the story behind their investment, they make better choices.
4. What keeps you motivated to educate Malaysians about property?
Our biggest motivation comes from two things – people’s lack of awareness and our own past mistakes.
When we bought our first property, we didn’t have proper guidance. We didn’t understand the fine print or the long-term consequences. We made decisions based on emotions and assumptions, and we paid the price for it.
That experience taught us how important proper education is. We realized if we went through that confusion, so many others must be facing the same thing.
That’s why we decided to use our platform to share knowledge and educate others in simple, practical ways. Every post, every video, and every consultation are a way for us to make sure others don’t repeat the same mistakes we did.
That’s what keeps us going, knowing that we’re helping people make smarter property decisions.
5. What’s one behind-the-scenes challenge you’ve faced, and how did you handle it?
One of the biggest challenges we face is being misunderstood. Even though we’re both licensed real estate negotiators, some people assume that anyone creating content online must be doing it for fame or views.
We’ve had people question our credibility or think we’re just another marketing account.
We don’t take it personally anymore. We know that scepticism comes from how the industry has been perceived for years. Instead, we focus on being transparent and consistent. We encourage everyone to check an agent’s LPPEH registration before engaging with them, including ours.
At the end of the day, consistency builds trust. We just keep showing up, sharing knowledge, and letting our work speak for itself.
Over time, people start to see that we’re not here for likes – we’re here to make a difference.
6. How do you split your roles as a couple in business?
We divide our roles based on our strengths, and that’s what keeps everything running smoothly.
Deva is more hands-on with clients. He’s the one meeting people, attending appointments, creating content, and handling everything on the ground.
Sharmila focuses on the creative and strategic side. She edits videos, writes content, manages social media, and oversees our online presence.
We trust each other completely and never step on each other’s roles. That’s what makes our teamwork so effective. We share the same vision, communicate openly, and respect each other’s strengths.
It’s truly a partnership – not just in business, but in life.
7. What’s one misconception about property investment you wish more people understood?
A lot of people still believe that real estate is a get-rich-quick game. They think if they buy a property today, they can flip it tomorrow and make huge profits. The truth is, property investment doesn’t work like that. It’s a long-term game that requires strategy, patience, and a clear understanding of market behaviour.
Another big misconception is ignoring location in favour of house size or design. You can buy the most beautiful house, but if it’s not in a strategic area, its value may remain stagnant for years. On the other hand, a smaller home in the right location can appreciate significantly over time.
Property is not just about ownership – it’s about making your money work for you. Once people understand that, they start investing with purpose, not emotion.
8. What advice would you give to first-time homebuyers?
We always share two important pieces of advice for first-time buyers.
The first is to consider buying your first home as an investment rather than for own stay. When your first property generates income, that cash flow strengthens your financial standing and helps you qualify for future loans. Essentially, your first property can help you buy your second.
The second is to focus on location instead of size. It’s easy to fall in love with a big house, but if it’s far from demand areas, its value won’t grow as fast. A smaller property in a prime location will always have better appreciation potential.
At the end of the day, your property should serve as a stepping stone to your next opportunity, not just a comfort zone.
9. How has your business evolved, and where do you see Desha Property Partners in the next five years?
Even though we only started in April 2025, the journey so far has been incredible. We’ve seen how much Malaysians crave honest, simplified knowledge about property.
In the next five years, our vision is to make Desha Property Partners a household name. When people in Malaysia think about buying, selling, or investing in real estate, we want Desha Property Partners to be the first name that comes to mind.
We don’t just want to be known as agents. We want to be recognized as trusted advisors – people who give honest guidance and help clients make smart, strategic decisions.
Beyond that, we want to build a strong community of educated investors who grow and support one another. Our goal is not just to sell property, but to raise the standard of property awareness in Malaysia.
10. What advice would you give to aspiring real estate agents?
If you’re thinking of becoming a full-time agent, be prepared for a journey that takes time.
Real estate isn’t an overnight success story. You’ll face slow months, rejections, and challenges – that’s normal. The key is to have a financial backup to manage your bills and expenses in the beginning, because consistency is what eventually brings results.
Don’t lose hope. Keep showing up every day. Learn something new, meet people, and keep doing the work even when no one is watching. Persistence always pays off.
If you stay focused and committed, you’ll eventually find your rhythm and success will follow.
11. How can people get in touch with you for a consultation?
The best way to reach us is through Instagram at @desha_propertypartners. You can drop us a DM and we’ll respond personally to guide you based on your goals – whether you’re buying, selling, or investing.
You can also contact us directly via WhatsApp at 011-2929 2825 for a one-on-one consultation.
