So far I’ve only made money using 2 platforms, which are UserTesting.com and Testerwork.com. Both gigs required me to test the Luno app, which is honestly a breeze for me since I use Luno all the time!
I first discovered the user testing gig by signing up for Luno Labs.
How to sign up for Luno Labs?
First, you create a Luno account, then go to Profile > Setting > Enable Luno Labs.
Once you’ve enabled Luno Labs and the Luno team decides to take on guinea pigs, they’ll send you an email to join UserTesting.com!
Follow the instructions to create an account on UserTesting!
Once done, just wait for an opportunity for a test case to come in via email!
What do I do as a User Tester?
Basically for Luno Labs, I get into a Zoom Call with a Luno employee and they’ll ask me a few general questions about crypto and Luno, like what my investing strategies are like, why do I use Luno, what are my thoughts on the current crypto scene, etc.
Don’t worry though, they just want to know how I think and what my thoughts are. I didn’t need to know technical crypto knowledge or specific coins or whatever.
Then the session is about testing a new product that Luno wants to implement using their testing environment.
REMEMBER, DON’T NEED TO GO INTO YOUR REAL LUNO ACCOUNT OR SHOW PERSONAL DETAILS.
This is just a testing scene.
The Luno employee will then ask me questions for each pages on the testing software and what I think about certain buttons or words or graphs or whatever. It’s important to speak out my mind to show them what I would think as a user of the product as I would in real life.
The session lasted for 45 mins but I felt like time moved so fast because I was having quite a bit of fun.
What other User Testing platforms are there?
The only other platform I used is called Testerwork.com.
All I did was answer some basic questions and then take the tests.
Also, I’ll admit that I cheated on the tests using this YouTube video. What a lifesaver!
Once registered, projects will come in via email like shown below!
It’s important to note that you should only sign up for the projects that you qualify for. Usually the projects would indicate what kind of gadgets should be used for testing, so please only accept the job if you have those specified gadgets.
For example, if the selected environment shows only operating system versions iOS and you only have a Samsung with Android OS, you shouldn’t accept the job.
Unlike UserTesting.com, Testerwork will send the test case via google sheets with specific questions.
I feel like this unguided test case is much tougher for its pay because I had to figure out what was wrong on my own without anyone to help me. I had to include as much information as I can while making sense in any observations I’ve made.
I also had to submit lots of screenshots and videos as proof of submission, which is slightly annoying.
How did I get paid?
Both platforms pay in US Dollars via PayPal within 2 weeks. It feels nice to earn in USD ngl.
Conclusion
It is important to note that all the user testing gigs I’ve made is based on the Luno app so I’m not sure if there are other projects that I’m not qualified for that can earn more money.
I’ll continue to test out other user testing platforms and report what I think of them.
Have you tried user testing? Or are you ready to start? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any questions you may have!
