Automated investing is gaining traction in Malaysia, and myASNB Ria is the latest robo-advisor to enter the market.
Launched by ASNB, this platform simplifies investing by automatically managing your portfolio based on your risk tolerance.
I decided to test myASNB Ria to see how it compares to other robo-advisors. In this post, I’ll share my experience, its pros and cons, and whether it’s worth considering.
What is MyASNB Ria?
MyASNB Ria is an automated investment platform by ASNB, licensed under the Digital Investment Management (DIM) framework by the Securities Commission Malaysia.
Using algorithms and Modern Portfolio Theory, Ria creates and manages personalized investment portfolios.
It assesses your risk profile and investment preferences before allocating funds across selected ASNB unit trusts, aiming to optimize returns while minimizing risk.
Quick and Easy Sign-Up Process
Signing up for myASNB Ria was surprisingly fast and straightforward—it took less than 10 minutes.
The instructions were clear, and existing ASNB investors can access Ria directly through the myASNB app, making it very convenient.
My Personal Experience with Ria
Before investing, you complete a risk assessment questionnaire to determine your risk tolerance. The process is beginner-friendly and helps you understand your comfort level with risk.
There are 6 predefined risk profiles, from Conservative to Highly Aggressive.
Based on my responses, Ria suggested a Moderate risk profile, but I opted for the Highly Aggressive portfolio instead.
Highly Aggressive Portfolio
Designed for long-term capital growth, this portfolio has over 90% exposure in the stock market:
- 56% ASN Equity Global – Global equities for capital growth.
- 40% ASN Equity Malaysia – Malaysian equities for local market exposure.
- 3% ASN Sukuk – Sukuk for stability.
Portfolio Breakdown
ASN Equity Global (56%)
- Top Holdings: Microsoft (8.99%), Taiwan Semiconductor (3.47%), Meta (3.41%), Salesforce (3.13%), NVIDIA (3.08%)
- Sector Allocation: IT (37.71%), ETF (11.06%), Healthcare (8.24%), Industrials (6.83%), Cash & Others (11.12%)
ASN Equity Malaysia (40%)
- Top Holdings: CIMB (8.85%), Maybank (8.61%), Public Bank (7.44%), Tenaga (5.80%), MAHB (4.76%)
- Sector Allocation: Financials (27.25%), Industrials (24.62%), Utilities (10.51%), Cash & Others (5.45%)
ASN Sukuk (3%)
- Top Holdings: Government of Malaysia Bonds (91.56%)
- Sector Allocation: Bonds (91.56%), Cash & Others (8.44%)
This portfolio balances high-risk, high-reward investments with slight stability from sukuk.
Free RM10 Bonus – A Nice Perk
New users who sign up with a referral code and deposit RM100 receive a free RM10 bonus—an instant 10% return to kickstart investing.
Portfolio Limitations
Here’s where myASNB Ria has some downsides:
Limited to ASN Funds – Unlike other robo-advisors offering global ETFs, bonds, or sukuk, myASNB Ria only invests in ASNB’s unit trust funds.
No Customization – Platforms like StashAway allow you to tailor your portfolio, but myASNB Ria does not.
If you prefer a highly diversified portfolio with broader global exposure, myASNB Ria may not be the best fit.
How Ria Compares to Other Robo-Advisors
Ria stands out because it is backed by ASNB, a trusted unit trust management company with over 40 years of experience.
Unlike other robo-advisors that invest in global ETFs and bonds, Ria exclusively invests in ASNB’s unit trust funds, including Malaysian and global equities and sukuk.
Additional benefits:
- Integrated within the myASNB application.
- Periodic rebalancing to align with your risk profile.
- Competitive fees compared to other robo-advisors.
Fees, Minimum Investment & Eligibility
Annual fee: 0.30%
Minimum investment: RM100 (initial and subsequent deposits)
Eligibility: Open to Malaysian citizens aged 18+ with a MyKad, valid email, and active Malaysian bank account.
This low entry requirement makes investing more accessible to Malaysians.
Shariah Compliance
Ria invests in unit trusts managed by ASNB, which are classified as ‘Harus’ (permissible) under Shariah guidelines.
This classification is endorsed by Malaysia’s National and State Fatwa Committees.
How Ria Differs from a Savings Account
Unlike a bank savings account with low-risk, fixed returns, Ria aims to grow wealth through diversified investments.
While it carries more risk, it offers higher potential returns compared to traditional savings accounts.
Transaction Processing Time
One-time deposits: 3-6 business days
Auto Labur (scheduled deductions): Up to 7 business days verification + 3-6 business days for investment
Total estimated processing time: 4-13 business days
For me, it took 4 business days for my deposit to be processed and invested.
Accessibility & Downtime Issues
Ria is only accessible through the myASNB app.
If the app undergoes maintenance, you won’t be able to access Ria during that period.
ASNB notifies users of expected downtimes.
Conclusion – Is MyASNB Ria Worth It?
✅ Best for:
✔️ Beginner investors looking for an easy, automated investing solution.
✔️ Existing ASNB users who prefer keeping investments within one platform.
✔️ Investors seeking Shariah-compliant portfolios.
❌ Not ideal for:
❌ Those who want high diversification beyond ASN funds.
❌ Investors who prefer greater control over portfolio allocation.
Would I recommend it? It depends on your goals.
- If you’re looking for a simple way to invest and don’t mind ASN-exclusive funds, Ria is a solid option.
- If you want more asset variety and control, other robo-advisors may be better suited.
